What is POS:
POS or PoS are abbreviations for point-of-sale, point of service, or
point of purchase. This acronym came about between 1950-1955. At
first POS was used for the store, dealer, or retail where merchandise
was sold, the term soon began to mean the cashier desk, checkout
counter, or cash register. Today, POS refers to a system that
automatically links to a computer, or terminal, which directly transmits
information concerning the sale to a database. The database records and
stores, the type of transaction,
items sold, and inventory of number of items left in stock.
